I was in with my friend Barbara today for a dual massage. We didn't have a chance to see before leaving Rainesforest. Just a quick note to say...

Craniosacral Therapy (Brisbane) - An Alternative for Chronic Pain Management

If you think about this word, it gives a good idea about the area of the body that forms the focus for the treatment.

‘Cranio’ represents the head area of the body, from the anatomy word cranium.  Our head is a complex structure, with liquid/electric fluids, plates of bone, spaces, membranes, and all types of tissue to help us function. Any treatment work involving the head area also involves its relationship with the whole body. An example of this is the central nervous system, which connects messaging from the brain to the spinal chord.

At the base of the spinal chord sits the sacrum, which is where the ‘sacral’ part of the name comes from. The sacrum is the foundation of craniosacral bodywork.

This treatment is very different from a traditional massage, in that no oil is used, and clients are usually clothed. It is a gentle style of treatment with hand techniques that are very subtle and stationary based. Tissues other than muscles are the focus of this work with any restrictions and rhythm imbalances encouraged to return to more of a normal state.

There are often ‘waiting’ periods experienced in the treatment, where a therapist will allow time for a client’s body to embrace the requested changes to tissue and its natural rhythms. ‘Listening’ to a body’s present state helps a therapist to make changes it it’s future state.

An experienced and fully trained therapist often uses craniosacral therapy to assist with neck and back pain, migraines, chronic pain (eg fibromyalgia or chronic fatigue), behavioural problems, sleeplessness, and mental stress.

Again I emphasise that craniosacral is a very very gentle and subtle form of bodywork treatment.

Therapists are not all equal, and training in this area of specialization can vary from a short period of months, or several years. As with other alternative therapies, finding a match between a client’s needs and specialist therapist’s ability to provide a solution is a delicate balancing act.

At Rainesforest Massage & Day Spa Indooroopilly, we have one therapist Su Tindall who specialises in this work. She is happy to discuss with you any inquiries you might have in regard to a craniosacral therapy (Brisbane). You can contact her through our switchboard on (07) 3878 9786 or on our Contact Us page. Should your circumstances require, she can also refer you on to other professionals who are specialists in advanced physiotherapy, musculo-skeletal medicine or osteopathic work in relation to this treatment.
